How it works?
We used the medically prescribed dose formula (15 mg/kg for oral Acetaminophen, 20 mg/kg for rectal Acetaminophen, and 10 mg/kg for Ibuprofen) with appropriate recommended maximum doses for each drug.
The final displayed dose is rounded (up or down) slightly for ease of use while still keeping it within safe limits.
We recommend using accurate syringes with clear markings to draw up the medications. Please do not guestimate or use kitchen tools to administer the dose. Pharmacies may provide dosing syringes.
Acetaminophen can be given every 4 hours for a maximum of 5 doses in 24 hours.
Ibuprofen can be given every 6-8 hours. Ibuprofen is not recommended for infants <6 months.
While you may choose to alternate the medications every 3 or 4 hours, we recommend following the respective times for each medication to maximize the dosing over 24 hours.
Acetaminophen and Ibuprofen may be given simultaneously.
Multiple different brands exist for these medications, please read the label carefully before administering the dose.
Temperature >/= 100.4 is the criteria for fever according to medical conventions in most cases.
For infants, the rectal temperature is considered the most accurate.
Please carefully consider personal medical attributes such as allergies, small age, chronic medical conditions, organ failure, etc. before administering these medications.
- We strongly recommend that you consult with a qualified healthcare professional, such as your doctor or pharmacist, to confirm the appropriate dosage for your specific situation.
